Confidence

When Todd Nelson took over as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, this team was headed in the wrong direction. While going out and winning a bunch of hockey games would have been great, expecting the worst team in the league to simply snap their fingers and start piling up victories with a new voice behind the bench, was never a realistic option.

A Fitting Result

While on the surface last night’s 4-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings can certainly be viewed as a rather difficult pill for the Edmonton Oilers to have swallowed, in actuality, it was a game in which the home side had absolutely no business even being in.

Six of Eight

After watching their goaltending cost them a number of points in the standings over the opening three months of the season, the Edmonton Oilers and their fans know exactly how the New York Islanders must be feeling following last night’s 5-2 loss to Todd Nelson’s crew.

Baby Steps

From a public perception standpoint, the Edmonton Oilers organization would have loved nothing more than to watch their team respond to the firing of Dallas Eakins with a string of victories. With that said, something tells me no one in the front office team is overly disappointed with how things have played out since bringing Todd Nelson on board as interim head coach.
