Lucky Bounces

After living through what was, at least in hockey terms, a week from hell, the Edmonton Oilers and their fans were due to for a little bit of good fortune on Friday evening at Rexall Place. On a night in which former netminder Curtis Joseph was honored during another addition of the organization’s “Once an Oiler, Always an Oiler”, it was current starter Ben Scrivens who played the role of hero in Edmonton’s 4-3 overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks.

The Kids Are Not The Problem

With the Edmonton Oilers heading for what could quite possibly be their fourth first overall pick in the last five years, many fans have finally reached their breaking point. Not surprisingly, much of the blame for what currently ills this roster continues to be hurled towards former general manager Steve Tambellini.

Better effort = Same result

Despite being soundly beaten by the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night, it would be rather ridiculous for either the Edmonton Oilers or their fans to be overly disappointed with their effort in what was a 5-2 loss to the Pacific Division leaders.

Let the kid heal and learn

There is no question Edmonton Oilers forward Nail Yakupov has had himself a sophomore season to forget. As if his boxcar numbers of 11 goals and 13 assists in 63 games played with a league worst -33 plus/minus rating wasn’t bad enough, apparently the former first overall pick has been playing on a fractured ankle since taking a shot off his skate back on February 27th against the Minnesota Wild.

Get these kids some help already!!!

On the heels of the Dallas Eakins – Taylor Hall incident and a pair of disappointing losses to the Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames, the time has come for Craig MacTavish and the rest of the Edmonton Oilers management team to take a long hard look in the mirror and figure out exactly what it is they are trying to accomplish.

Eakins makes a mountain out of a molehill

Following the embarrassment that was the Edmonton Oilers 8-1 thrashing at the hands of the Calgary Flames on Saturday night at Rexall Place, I went out of my way to not write a single word about the Dallas Eakins and Taylor Hall incident which occurred late in the second period on the Oilers bench.

A perfect weekend

When it comes to playoff hockey, good teams tend to get contributions from their depth players when it matters most. The Edmonton Oil Kings are among the very best teams in all of junior hockey and on Sunday evening, Derek Laxdal’s side proved just how important those so-called lesser likes can be.

Rock Bottom

As tough as this season has been on both the Edmonton Oilers and their fans, Saturday night’s 8-1 thrashing at the hands of the Calgary Flames has to be regarded as the low point of what has been arguably the most disappointing campaign in franchise history.
