Oilers Captain Makes Youngster's Day

Oilers fan Cooper Beamish, is in the City of Champions this weekend, to take part in a minor hockey tournament with his team, the Fort St.John Atom Flyers. While in town, the youngster was lucky enough to have time to attend last night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Cooper's favourite player has always been Shawn Horcoff and after the game, the kid got an opportunity to meet the Oilers captain.

Game 26: Edmonton 6 Columbus 3

Heading into the third period, the Edmonton Oilers were staring at a fourth consecutive loss, if they couldn't come from behind to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Oilers managed to find their game and did it in style, with a five goal outburst, that was led by winger Ryan Jones. The hard working Jones scored three third period markers, giving the fan favourite his first career hat-trick and the Oilers a much needed victory, by a score of 6-3.

Game 25: Minnesota 3 Edmonton 2 (SO)

Last week the Edmonton Oilers were finally able to end their seventeen game losing streak against the Wild, in Minnesota. Unfortunately for the Oilers, the Wild have started a new streak of sorts, after beating the Oilers for the third time via the shootout. This time by a score of 3-2. Former Oiler Kyle Brodziak, scored the winner in the shootout after notching his sixth of the season in the second to tie the score at two. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle led the way for the home side, with a goal and an assist each

Taylor Hall Out 2-4 Weeks

Just before the start of last night's game, the story that was making the rounds was that Taylor Hall would be out of action for a week to ten days, with a shoulder injury. It seemed almost to good to be true. Everyone saw the same thing, him skate off the ice with his arm dangling at his side Saturday night...there is no way that he would miss just a couple of weeks. It had to be longer then that...didn't it?

Game 24: Nashville 2 Edmonton 1

Over the last few years, the Nashville Predators have more often then not, had their way with the Edmonton Oilers. That being said, the Oilers have already managed to pick up two victories against the hard working Predators and were looking to make it three for three on Monday night. Unfortunately for the home side, the visitors had no intention of allowing the streak to reach three in a row. Making only his second start of the season, goaltender Anders Lindback was able to do what all world netminder, Pekka Rinne, could not...beat the Edmonton Oilers. Led by a hard hitting performance from forward Jordan Tootoo and a clutch goal from linemate Nick Spaling, the Nashville Predators found a way to edge a weary looking Edmonton Oilers club by a score of 2-1.

Power Play Shuffle

You may find it odd that you are about to read a piece on the Oilers power play and that Eric Belanger is pictured above it. The fact that Belanger and Oilers power play, are even mentioned in the same breath is very troubling to me. Unfortunately, this coaching staff believes that the struggling centre needs to be part of the mix, when Edmonton is up a man. With Taylor Hall out of action for the foreseeable future, the success of the power play will become that much more import, in determining how the Oilers will do without the former first overall selection in their lineup.

Game 23: Colorado 5 Edmonton 2

The Edmonton Oilers finished up their four game road trip, just like they started it, with a loss to a struggling team. Difference being, the Oilers blew a 2-1 third period lead to the Avalanche and ended up taking in on the chin 5-2. Goaltender Devan Dubnyk gave up three goals in the third period, on shots from the blueline, two of which he should have had. To make matters worse, the team lost the services of winger Taylor Hall for the foreseeable future. The talented youngster suffered an apparent shoulder injury,  after Avs defenceman, Ryan Wilson, took Hall out with a crushing body check early in the first period.
