Oilers should target Malcolm Subban

The Edmonton Oilers recent draft history has started to make up for what had been over two decades of poor talent assessment by their scouting staff. While they have restocked their cupboards with a ton of highly rated prospects, the one position they have not been able to find an elite NHL talent in, is in goal. The last time this franchise selected a quality goaltender was back in1981...when they took Grant Fuhr with the eighth overall pick. While 2004 first rounder Devan Dubnyk, has started to show signs of possibly becoming a number one netminder and 2010 selection Tyler Bunz looks to have a bright future in front of him, neither one seem to be a "sure thing". Fuhr was just that but that was over thirty years ago. With the 2012 NHL Entry Draft only a couple of months away and the Oilers already holding the first overall pick, one has to wonder if they would consider swinging a deal to acquire a mid to late first rounder and take a shot at Belleville Bulls goalie Malcolm Subban.

Are Brent Sutter and the Oilers a Good Fit?

With the Edmonton Oilers deciding to leave their head coach Tom Renney flailing in the wind at the conclusion of what was a disappointing 2011-2012 campaign. It appears as though the Oilers bench boss may very well be on his last legs in Edmonton. If Steve Tambellini and company decide to go a different route in 2012-2013 and bring in a new head coach, they could have some interesting options to choose from. Though one name in particular, seems to be the most intriguing...Brent Sutter.

Memo to all Oilers players, that's how it is done

Watching Ottawa Senator defenceman Matt Carkner lay a beating on an unwilling Brian Boyle during the early stages of last night's playoff battle against the New York Rangers and Sens, brought a huge smile to my face. That smile then turned into to an all out grin, when Chris Neil decided to drop his mitts and engage Boyle one more time just over six minutes later. All I could think, was I sure hope all the Edmonton Oilers players, coaches and management were tuned in and paying close attention. That is how a team needs to react to a player from the opposition taking shots at one of your star players. Unfortunately, fans know all to well that isn't the case in this neck of the woods, as the Oilers players seem more then ok with teams continually taking runs at the likes of Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle.
