Oilers get their man for 8 more years

It wasn't that long ago that some were suggesting the Edmonton Oilers were actually taking a "huge risk" in signing a player like Taylor Hall to seven year extension. The non-believers argued the club were crazy to give out that sort of money and term to a supposed "injury prone" guy like Hall. Just over a calendar year later, how do you think the masses view Mr. Hall's 7 year/ $42 million extension?

Oilers dump Canucks, as Luongo struggles in return

The Edmonton Oilers wasted little time to familiarize themselves with the Vancouver Canucks and one Roberto Luongo. After torching Luongo and the Canucks for seven goals in the Oilers 2013 season finale, Edmonton continued their recent domination of one of the league's premier netminders, scoring four first period goals in just over seven minutes, en route to an easy 4-1 victory over their Pacific Division rival.

Eakins may need Perron and Hemsky to play a different role

Heading into training camp, almost everyone felt the Edmonton Oilers top six forwards were pretty much set in stone. While Ryan Nugent-Hopkins may end up  missing a handful of games to start the year, the spots on the Oilers top two lines looked to be earmarked for Jordan Eberle, Sam Gagner, Taylor Hall, RNH, David Perron and Nail Yakupov.

Jets spoil Eakins debut

Despite a late third period rally and a solid performance from his starting netminder, Dallas Eakins did not get the result he was hoping for in his debut behind an NHL bench. While third period goals from Mitch Moroz and Philip Larsen made it close on the scoreboard, this was a game the Edmonton Oilers had no business being in, falling 3-2 to the Winnipeg Jets in Tuesday night NHL exhibition action.

2013-14 Preview: Grebeshkov will be Grebeshkov

Denis Grebeshkov is one of those players that generally splits a teams fan base. There are those that love the puck moving abilities that the talented Russian defenceman brings to the table and than there are those that could do without watching the mind numbing turnovers and questionable on ice decisions.

2013-14 Preview: Gordon should be a nice fit

It was arguably the worst kept secret in hockey. Everyone knew Edmonton Oilers GM Craig MacTavish had his eye on Boyd Gordon. The hope was the twenty-nine year old would opt for unrestricted free agency, in search of a big pay day, rather than return to Phoenix and remain a member of the Coyotes.

Joensuu steals the show, as Oilers spilt with Flames

On a night in which the Edmonton Oilers opened up both the home and road portions of their 2013 exhibition schedule, a pair of late rallies from the Calgary Flames sent both teams home as winners and losers on the night.
