Oilers drop preseason finale to Stars "B" squad

On a night in which the Dallas Stars dressed as close to an AHL lineup as any National Hockey League team is allowed during the preseason, the Edmonton Oilers simply forgot to show up. Goals from Austin Smith and Luke Gazdic paved the way for the Stars easy 4-0 victory, over what was essentially the lineup Dallas Eakins intends on using in the Oilers season opener come Tuesday night.

Oilers need to lean on star players...not Ryan Smyth

Ryan Smyth is arguably the most popular post-dynasty player to have played for the Edmonton Oilers. While he has managed to put together a pretty impressive career over his 1,198 NHL outings, Smyth is nowhere near the player he was during the early to mid 2000's.

Oilers drop Jones in preparation of season opener

Over the last few days, rumours had began circulating around the Edmonton Oilers and forward Ryan Jones possibly parting ways prior to the start of the 2013-14 NHL campaign on October 1st. On Wednesday morning, the organization decided to put all the speculation to rest, placing the twenty-nine year old on waivers.

Oilers beat Rangers, send Nurse back to OHL

For a guy who has had nothing more than an adequate run through much of the Edmonton Oilers preseason schedule, Jordan Eberle has managed to continually find his way onto the scoresheet. Last night was no exception, as the Oilers #14 and linemates Mark Arcobello and David Perron combined for seven points, in leading Edmonton to a 5-3 victory over the visiting New York Rangers.

Omark sent packing one more time

After last night's performance against the Winnipeg Jets, I like many others, felt Linus Omark had played his last game as a member of the Edmonton Oilers. Just after 10 am this morning, the organization confirmed exactly that, placing the talented winger on waivers for the purpose of sending him to the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL. That said, let's hope another NHL team puts a claim in on the young man and gives him a fresh start in another NHL city

Pitlick and Belov impress in win over Jets

On a night in which the Edmonton Oilers did not dress the majority of their core forward group, the likes of Will Acton, Jesse Joensuu and Tyler Pitlick used the opportunity to send a message to head coach Dallas Eakins. Second period goals from Acton and Joensuu proved to be all the Oilers would need, as they reeled off their third consecutive preseason win, edging the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 2-1.

Oilers betting on Big Mac having a positive impact

There is little doubt that the vast majority of Edmonton Oilers fans were thrilled with Monday morning's announcement of Steve MacIntyre being picked up off of waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguiins. In the minds of others, mine included, the move came across as nothing more then an overreaction to what occurred at Rexall Place during Saturday night's matchup against the Vancouver Canucks.

Oilers don't need a goon but they need to do something

Watching opponents continually take runs at the Edmonton Oilers skilled forwards has become par for the course. Hockey is physical game and unfortunately, teams are going to try and slow down the likes of a Sam Gagner or Taylor Hall by whatever means necessary.

No Sam Gagner...Hello Boyd Gordon!!!

Apparently Sam Gagner and the NHL preseason don't mix. For the second time in three years, Gagner has had the misfortune of being hit with the injury bug during the Oilers exhibition schedule. Prior to the start of the 2011-12 campaign, it was a high-ankle sprain he suffered against the Calgary Flames that kept him out of action until late-October and hampered him until the end of the 2011 calendar year.

Belov and Rimmer impress in debut

On a night in which the Vancouver Canucks had just one of their regular core players in the lineup, that being Alex Edler, the Edmonton Oilers had little trouble in earning a 5-2 victory over their Pacific Division rival in Saturday night NHL exhibition action. Defenceman Anton Belov made his long-awaited debut in Oilers silks, as the free agent signing was paired with fellow Russian blueliner Denis Grebeshkov.
