Game 47: Edmonton 6 Minnesota 1

Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall and Nail Yakupov led the charge upfront with a combined eight point effort, while Nikolai Khabibulin was simply outstanding, in what was likely his final appearance in an Oilers uniform. As the Edmonton Oilers destroyed the Minnesota WIld 6-1 in Friday night NHL action, in a game that had huge playoff implication for the Wild.

Krueger is not the problem

Saying the Edmonton Oilers have hit the skids down stretch, would be putting it nicely. Since grabbing hold of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference back on April 3rd, this team has become completely unglued . They have posted a staggering 1-9 mark over their last ten and once again find themselves battling for the right to select first at this summer's NHL Entry Draft.

Game 46: Chicago 4 Edmonton 1

It was the best vs the worst matchup on Wednesday night at Rexall Place, as the Chicago Blackhawks paid a visit to the struggling Edmonton Oilers. Three point efforts from Patrick Kane and Michal Handzus proved to be more than enough, as the Blackhawks strolled their way to a 4-1 victory and clinching the President's Trophy as the top team in the National Hockey League.

Theo Peckham and the Edmonton Oilers

To be completely fair, Theo Peckham has no one to blame but himself for the situation he currently finds himself in. Once the NHL and NHLPA decided to finally come to their senses and put an end to what was ultimately a pointless lockout, Peckham showed up to the Oilers abbreviated training camp overweight and out of shape. Simply unacceptable for any player in today's NHL...unless your first name is Dustin and your surname is either Byfuglien or Penner.

Game 45: Anaheim 3 Edmonton 0

With the losses continuing to pile up, this season could not end soon enough for the Edmonton Oilers. After delivering another half-hearted performance on home ice, Edmonton proceeded to drop their second in as many nights to the visiting Anaheim Ducks. The 3-0 victory clinched the Pacific Division crown for the Ducks and leaves the Oilers with a horrendous 1-8 record since the NHL Trade Deadline.

Game 44: Anaheim 3 Edmonton 1

As if the announcement of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins being shutdown for the remainder of the season and headed for shoulder surgery wasn't enough for fans of the Edmonton Oilers to digest for one day. This team decided to take it a step further, clinching their seventh consecutive season without an appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Upgrading Oilers D will be priority number one for MacT

A couple of days back, this very space focused on some of the possible options General Manager Craig MacTavish might have at his disposal, in looking towards improving the mix within the Edmonton Oilers forward group. While some feel that there are few legitimate targets among the so-called available forward group, the possible targets on defencemen  are far fewer in number.
