The Edmonton Oilers trimmed their roster down to 27 players today, sending out the following players:
Teemu Hartikainen, Josh Green, Ryan Keller, Ryan O'Marra and Gilbert Brule
Hartikainen is the only one that does not have to clear waivers to go to Oklahoma City but you would assume the other four will clear. Most would agree, myself included, that Hartikainen should have made the club but with the numbers being what they are it is no surprise the young Finn was sent down.
No shock in Green, Keller and O'Marra sent packing, as none had a legit shot of making the club...regardless of what some were saying about O'Marra.
That brings us to Brule and I will say I am surprised the organization sent him down. He hasn't earned a spot on the club in any way but I thought they would keep him around because of his contract status.
Give Steve Tambellini and company full marks for doing what was best for the club. Anton Lander has made it next to impossible to send him out of Edmonton and he earned his shot to start the season here. Unlike Hartikainen, he has benefited from an injury to Sam Gagner to get his foot in the door, so lets see what he does with the opportunity.
