Before playing in last night's game against the Abbotsford Heat, winger Linus Omark had been out of action since breaking his ankle back on Novemebr 16th. The talented Swede had not only missed the previous thirty-one games for Oklahoma City but also lost an opportunity to find his way back to Edmonton, due to a rash of injuries in January. That being said, all signs were pointing towards the diminutive winger looking forward to getting back in action and starting off fast, in hopes of earning a call up.
Omark did not disappoint, picking up a goal and an assist in leading the Barons to a 4-0 victory over the Heat. Linus setup Josh Green for his ninth of the season, late in the second period, to give OKC a 2-0 lead and put the game on ice when he scored his second of the season early in the third to make 3-0. After the game, he said, “The ankle is good, it’s not game ready but I haven’t played a game for almost three months. The more I played the more I came into the game.(At first) I was lost.”
All things considered, Linus was pretty good and if he continues to progress over the next couple of weeks, look for the talented youngster to be back in Edmonton before or just following the February 27th NHL Trade Deadline. That will leave the highly skilled winger twenty games to show what he can do in Edmonton and hopefully, leave a lasting impression on the organization. A strong performance will go along way in forcing the Oilers brass to think long and hard about signing the talented twenty-five year old to a contract extension.
