Time To Decide

As far as second round picks go, Martin Marincin hasn't exactly knocked it out of the park to this point in his National Hockey League career. While the Edmonton Oilers have yet to receive the pay off  they were hoping for when the organization decided to use the forty-sixth pick of the 2010 Entry Draft on the gangly blueliner, he has certainly shown signs of progress during the past two seasons.

Will Justin Schultz Still Be Here In 2015-16?

During his two plus years in charge of the Edmonton Oilers organization, Craig MacTavish had more than a few stumbles along the way. While the hiring of Dallas Eakins as his head coach arguably played the biggest role in his eventual dismissal as general manager, there were two comments he made during that time frame that frustrated this fan base until the very end of his tenure.

Does Martin Marincin Stay Or Go?

There is no doubt that Wednesday’s 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche will always hold a special place in the heart of Edmonton Oilers defenceman Martin Marincin. When a guy scores the first goal of his National Hockey League career, it generally tends to be one of those memorable moments.

One Ugly Blueline

While it was bound to happen, it certainly did not make the trading of Jeff Petry any easier to stomach. To make matter worse, the eventual return was something which will not help the Edmonton Oilers in any way shape or form over the next few years.

The Good Ben Scrivens

Heading into last night’s game against the Boston Bruins, all anyone wanted to talk about was who Claude Julien would be starting in goal. After starting Tuukka Rask in fourteen consecutive games and twenty-three of the Bruins last twenty-four outings, word on the street was they were considering going with youngster Malcolm Subban against the Edmonton Oilers.

Hindsight

One cannot help but wonder if there are days that Craig MacTavish sits around and ponders what might have been, had he only been willing to give up his first round selection at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. While the Edmonton Oilers used the seventh overall pick to snag themselves a blue-chip prospect in defenceman Darnell Nurse, it was that decision that ultimately kept this organization from acquiring former Vancouver Canucks netminder Cory Schneider.

Bring On The Blues!!!

On the surface one might look at the Edmonton Oilers 1-0 loss to the Nashville Predators on Thursday night as one of those games that you simply chalk up to the play of the goaltender down at the other end of the rink.

Time To Finally Fix The D

When Craig MacTavish decided to “upgrade” his blueline during the off-season, a large portion of the Edmonton Oilers fan base bought into the illusion that this team’s backend was going to be drastically improved over the mess we saw on a nightly basis during what truly was a disastrous 2013-14 campaign.

Simple Question....Why?

With the Edmonton Oilers in the midst of a three game losing skid, it appears as though Dallas Eakins has decided to push the panic button heading into tonight’s matchup against the Boston Bruins.

Enough Already

The fact the Edmonton Oilers were blown out 6-1 by the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night should have surprised absolutely no one. This has become the norm when the Oilers face the defending Stanley Cup champs, as LA simply toys with them until they build a big enough lead and coast to an easy win.

Darnell Nurse earns his shot

After completing their pre-season schedule with 3-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night, the Edmonton Oilers were left with some rather difficult decisions to make prior to the start of their 2014-15 schedule.

Oilers win another but the waters remain rather muddy

It certainly wasn’t pretty but the Edmonton Oilers found a way to send 16, 839 home from Rexall Place with a smile on their collective faces on Monday evening courtesy of a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

Marincin continues to make things interesting

While the Edmonton Oilers dropped their second pre-season decision in four outings on Sunday afternoon in Saskatoon, falling 5-0 to the Chicago Blackhawks “B - Squad”, their win/loss record in exhibition games doesn’t mean a damn thing.

2014-15 Preview: Andrew Ference

By the time the dust had settled on what was a rather underwhelming 2013-14 campaign for the Edmonton Oilers, Andrew Ference had taken more than a few shots for his level of play during his debut season in Orange and Blue. From the moment general manager Craig MacTavish signed him to a four year $13 million unrestricted free agency deal, expectation for the veteran rearguard appeared to be rather unrealistic.

Klefbom will push for regualr duty in 2014-15

There was no question that Craig MacTavish was going to upgrade his blueline during the summer and he apparently accomplished what he set out to do in signing defencemen Keith Aulie, Mark Fayne and Nikita Nikitin to free agent deals.

MacT needs to make this summer count

With the 2014 NHL Entry Draft mere hours away from taking place, fans of the Edmonton Oilers are firmly focused on who their favourite team will ultimately select with the third overall pick.  Be it Aaron Ekblad, Leon Draisaitl, Sam Bennett or Sam Reinhart none of these kids will play a major role in helping the Oilers improve in 2014-15.

Drafting Aaron Ekblad

There is no question that the Edmonton Oilers greatest area of organizational need is at centre ice.
Outside of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and the polarizing figure that has become Sam Gagner, the Oilers cupboards are completely bare when it comes to options down the middle of the rink.

Upgrading the Blueline

With the both the NHL Entry Draft and Unrestricted Free Agency just around the corner, Edmonton Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish will have some very tough decisions to make over the next couple of weeks. He will undoubtedly be trying his very best to improve this club for the upcoming 2014-15 season and you can bet his primary focus will be on the Oilers blueline.

Oilers and Canucks would make perfect trading partners

As disappointing as the 2013-14 season was for the Edmonton Oilers, one could argue it was that much worse for the Vancouver Canucks. While most were expecting the Canucks to take a bit of a step back playing in the newly formed Pacific Division, no one saw them imploding in the manner they did over the last half of the year.

Andrei Markov...Yes Or No?

Heading into this year’s NHL Trade Deadline, there were many a rumour surrounding the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov. While such a deal would have made little to no sense for either team to even consider, the Oilers interest in the veteran blueliner was quite real and will likely be revisited this summer.
