Maroon Looks To Be A Nice Fit...So Far

As far as first impressions go, it is next to impossible to not like what we have seen from Patrick Maroon during his first two games as a member of the Edmonton Oilers. In the span of just over 24 hours, the hulking American winger made his presence felt both from a physical standpoint and on the scoresheet. Outside of getting tagged with a ridiculous uppercut during an energetic tilt with Columbus Blue Jackets heavyweight Jared Boll, not much has gone wrong for the former Anaheim Ducks winger since arriving in the Alberta capital.

Offer Sheets

Over the last number years, it has almost become an annual tradition for fans of the Edmonton Oilers to concoct a list of potential restricted free agents for the organization to target by going the route of the always popular offer sheet.  During each and every one of those occasions, there has always been a so-called primary target and this year that appears to be Boston Bruins blueliner Dougie Hamilton.

Give me Brenden Morrow not Dustin Penner

Heading into this year's NHL Trade Deadline, rumour was the Los Angeles Kings were in hot pursuit of Calgary Flames forward Jarome Iginla. If the Kings had been able to pull off such a move, in my mind, Dustin Penner would have been a perfect fit for the Edmonton Oilers. Acquiring a player like Dustin for a playoff push is one thing but bringing him on board from the start of the season, is something completely different.

Dustin Penner and the Oilers are a perfect short term fit

Dustin Penner was arguably one of the most polarizing figures in the history of the Edmonton Oilers. There are those that will argue that he is as lazy player as you will find in the National Hockey League and could care less about anything other than his next pay cheque. While on the other hand, you have those that will go to their grave defending the value he brings to any team, fortunate enough, to have in their lineup.
