Apparently Cam Barker's ankle was much worse off then was first feared. Tom Renney announced, after the clubs morning skate, that the 25 year old defenceman requires surgery on his injured ankle. Barker will be out of the Oilers lineup for at least the next three months and could very well bring his time as an Edmonton Oiler to an end after only twelve games.
While Renney hinted that the clubs best blueliner, Ryan Whitney, is getting pretty close to returning, Edmonton's need to upgrade their D has now been taken to a whole new level. With Barker gone at least three months, the Oilers have no choice but to seriously look at adding another puck moving defenceman and in a hurry. For some reason, the organization has yet to call up a defenceman but I would assume that will change before Saturday's game against Chicago. One would think that Colton Teubert would get the call but don't be surprised if recently re-acquired Taylor Chorney is brought back up to Edmonton. Chorney is nothing more then a depth player but he does bring the ability to move the puck to the table.
