Curious Decision Peter
After watching the Edmonton Oilers reach the second round of the NHL Playoffs for the first time in eleven years, one would have thought Peter Chiarelli would be looking to make a move to help his team get over that next hurdle in their development. If the last few days are any indication of what we can expect between now and the start of next season, it appears as though no such move is on the horizon.

Trading Places: Nurse for Hamonic
In a perfect world, fans of the Edmonton Oilers would love nothing more than to have their general manager go big game hunting this summer and come back with one of Erik Karlsson or P.K. Subban in his back pocket. Unfortunately, the chances of Peter Chiarelli pulling off such a move with either the Ottawa Senators or Montreal Canadiens are likely next to non-existent and could ultimately lead to him parting with a piece he probably has no real interest in moving in order to improve his backend.

Potential Trade Partners - Winnipeg Jets
While the level of expectation on the Edmonton Oilers was nowhere as high as what the Winnipeg Jets faced heading into the 2015-16 NHL campaign, both clubs seasons can be viewed as nothing other than utter disappointments. So it would only seem natural to come to the conclusion that the two organizations will be looking to making changes to their rosters heading into the 2016 Entry Draft. With that being the case, would it really be so far-fetched to see Peter Chiarelli and Kevin Cheveldayoff make a blockbuster deal revolving around the Oilers first-round pick and defenceman Jacob Trouba?

Could Demers Injury Change Things?
Considering the Oilers on the verge of missing the playoffs for a tenth consecutive season and have been out of the post-season picture for some time now, all that really matters is what comes next. With that said, you can bet Peter Chiarelli has been scouring over the list of potential unrestricted free agent defenceman who will be hitting the open market this summer. While he managed to reel in last year’s big fish in Andrej Sekera, recent events could make him think twice about going down a similar path with current Dallas Stars blueliner Jason Demers.

The Rumour That Won't Go Away
With the NHL Trade Deadline inching closer with every passing day, it is no surprise that the rumour mill is starting to kick back into gear during this weekend’s All-Star Weekend festivities. At the top of that list, we have an oldie but goodie involving the Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders. From the moment Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman broke the news of Travis Hamonic’s trade request back in mid-November, the two franchises have been linked as potential trade partners and it is easy to see why.
