For forty minutes, the Edmonton Oilers played a perfect game. Unfortunately for them, two periods of hockey rarely wins you a game and almost guarantees you a loss against a team like the Detroit Red Wings. Pavel Datsyuk did what Pavel Datsyuk does, scoring the OT winner, and Jimmy Howard was outstanding, turning aside thirty shots, in helping the Wings to a crucial 3-2 come from behind victory in Friday night NHL action.

Oilers have a very tough decision to make on Sam Gagner
If you follow the Edmonton Oilers, you can't help but pull for Sam Gagner. He has limitations in certain areas of his game but he is an extremely talented player, has the heart of a lion and appears to be one of the guys that desperately wants to be part of the equation in the Alberts capital.

Hemsky's days in Oilers silks appear to still be numbered
Despite rebounding from what was just a horrible 2011-2012 campaign, Ales Hemsky appears to be on his last legs as a member of the Edmonton Oilers. While the silky smooth winger and General Manager Steve Tambellini agreed to what was a very fair 2yr/$10 million extension leading up to last season's NHL Trade Deadline, the addition of Nail Yakupov and a need for change, will ultimately cost the twenty-nine year old his spot.

Oilers could still take a run at Northwest Division crown
Twenty-fives games into their abbreviated forty-eight game schedule, the Edmonton Oilers find themselves in fourteenth place in the Western Conference standings. While they may only be five points out of the eighth and final playoff spot, the chances of them vaulting over six teams in the next seven weeks are high unlikely...if not next to impossible.

Game 25: Edmonton 6 Chicago 5
The day after calling a players only meeting with his struggling teammates, Edmonton Oilers captain Shawn Horcoff made his long awaited return to lineup on Sunday night in Chicago. Apparently those words did not fall on deaf ears, as the Oilers pulled out a thrilling 6-5 victory over the first place Blackhawks.

Oilers would be foolish to not shakeup roster until the off-season
With the Edmonton Oilers in the midst of what has now become a yearly tradition of plummeting down the Western Conference standings. The vast majority of those in Oil Country are calling for the dismissal of one or all three of head coach Ralph Krueger, General Manager Steve Tambellini and President of Hockey Operations Kevin Lowe.
